The Kogei Collection

House of Suntory is introducing two new Japanese whiskies. It’s the Kogei Collection Japanese Kimono Edition, which is comprised of two limited expressions. It features a new Yamazaki and Hakushu whisky, both of which have a smoky character.

The Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak

The Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak showcases a serene depiction of three converging rivers near the distillery, instilling a sense of tranquility. Elegant gold stamps adorn the bottle, reminiscent of drifting clouds.

Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak Tasting Notes:

  • Delicate smokiness reminiscent of a crackling campfire
  • Ripe orchard fruits, including crisp apples and juicy pears
  • Layers of rich honey and vanilla with hints of toasted oak
  • Lingering finish with warmth, sophistication, and nuances of dark chocolate and spice

Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013:

  • Rich and indulgent, with intense notes of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and warm spices

  • Unique and exotic, with pronounced notes of sandalwood, incense, and tropical fruits
  • Distinctive aroma of Japanese Mizunara oak, imparting a fragrant spiciness and a hint of coconut
  • Velvety texture, with flavors of pineapple, mango, and cinnamon, intermingling with delicate floral undertones
  • Lingering finish, with a subtle sweetness and a touch of smoky oak

The Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak

Meanwhile, the Hakushu Peated Malt Spanish Oak features a vibrant portrayal of verdant mountainsides mirroring the lush Japanese Southern Alps enveloping the distillery. Silver stamps evoke the misty forest clouds, intertwined with threads reminiscent of kimonos.

  • Aromas of fresh pine forests and dew-kissed grasses
  • Hints of citrus zest and fragrant herbs
  • Layers of smoky peat with notes of green tea and crisp mountain air
  • Long, refreshing finish with sweet honey and gentle spices

Hakushu 12 Year Old:

Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve:

  • Fresh and herbal on the palate, with flavors of mint, basil, and green apple
  • Subtle smokiness, reminiscent of a bonfire in the forest, balanced by a hint of sweetness
  • Crisp and clean finish, with a touch of white pepper and lingering fruitiness

Hakushu 18 Year Old:

  • Elegant and complex, with layers of orchard fruits, honey, and delicate smoke
  • Aromas of ripe pear, melon, and heather, with a hint of toasted oak
  • Silky smooth on the palate, with flavors of caramelized apple, vanilla, and a touch of cinnamon
  • Long and satisfying finish, with lingering notes of fruit, spice, and a whisper of peat

Both expressions will debut at select airports, including Singapore’s Changi Airport, starting April 1, 2024. Bottled at 43% ABV, they are priced at $299 SGD (US$222).
