Have you ever heard of The Antiquary? It is one of Scotland’s oldest brands, originally established in 1888, but until recently, it had fallen out of the spotlight. That is changing, thanks to Tomatin. Three new whiskies from this brand have been released.
In 1996, Tomatin acquired the rights to The Antiquary. Now, 28 years later, this has led to a revival of the brand. Three new expressions have been launched: a 15-year-old, a 21-year-old, and a 30-year-old whisky.
A New Era for The Antiquary Whisky
Scott Adamson, blender and global brand ambassador for Tomatin, is very pleased: “The blends have had an unusually long maturation period, using casks that impart a lot of character to this exciting new era for The Antiquary.”
Each whisky bottle comes with new packaging featuring a more contemporary look

This whisky has matured in Bordeaux red wine Claret casks and features notes of “mahogany, polished leather, and pipe tobacco” on the nose, with “rhubarb, tamarind, raspberry coulis, and vanilla” on the palate. Price: £45
The Antiquary 21 Years
This whisky has matured in Tawny Port casks from Symington Family Estates in Portugal. It offers aromas of “hessian, cut hay, burning heather, and dark mocha,” with flavors of “spiced plum, wild strawberries, dark chocolate, and orange.” Price: £100
The Antiquary 30 Years
This whisky has matured in sherry casks from Jerez in Spain. The profile is characterized by “tropical fruit with hints of smoked bacon and aged wood” on the nose, and a finish of “beeswax and heather honey.” Price: £275
