The world of whisky trading is full of auction-based platforms that solve some of the trading issues. But inherent to auctions is usually a higher-than-market-rate hammer price. Buyers pay that price. And often a buyer’s premium on top of that. Sellers don’t reap all the benefits either: a seller’s commission comes off their side, not to mention the fees that are tacked on.
