The Angel’s Share and Chichibu Whisky Angels Favourite Release
The term “angel’s share” is well-known among whisky enthusiasts. It refers to the small percentage of whisky that evaporates from its cask each year during the aging process. This natural evaporation makes the remaining whisky even more valuable, as less of it is available for bottling. The idea playfully suggests that this lost whisky is an offering to the angels who watch over the casks.
Typically, these angels are content with taking about 1-3% of the whisky per year. However, when it comes to Chichibu whisky, one of the most prized in the world, the angels seem to get a bit more indulgent. It’s said that the angels can’t get enough of Chichibu’s exceptional spirit, often taking more than their usual share. This playful notion highlights the extraordinary quality and allure of Chichibu whisky, making it even more cherished by those lucky enough to taste it.

The Chichibu Whisky Angels Favourite Release
In a decision that exemplifies serene confidence, Salud has opted to bottle a single cask of Chichibu as a unique edition named “Spirits of Salud Angel’s Favourite.” Originally intended to be part of Salud’s renowned 7 Gods of Fortune series, this rare release stands alone, symbolizing a truly special occasion. According to legend, the angels only indulge so much in something truly exceptional, and this whisky certainly fits that description.
The whisky is an 8-year-old single cask, bottled at a robust 63.5% ABV, with only 75 bottles produced. It was carefully selected by Salud’s expert panel of whisky connoisseurs, including Noortje Baselmans, Herbert Roenhorst, Ronald Zwartepoorte, Jan Smits, and Martijn van Opstal. Crafted from heavily peated Concerto barley, it was aged in a second-fill bourbon barrel. The label, designed by WARBB using AI, is a testament to the same creative prowess seen in the 7 Gods of Fortune series.
