Acquiring these tequilas won’t be straightforward, as the five cask-aged Don Julio 1942 Tequilas are only available as a full set via auction on the blockchain platform BlockBar. The auction began on June 4th and will run until June 20th.
The set includes Bourbon, Ruby Port, Orange Wine, Madeira, and Cremant casks, each available for separate bidding starting at US$35,000. Winners will receive their tequila through an NFT token issued by BlockBar, which can be redeemed 12 months after the auction concludes. During this period, the five casks will be stored at Don Julio’s distillery in Mexico and will be bottled between December 2024 and March 2025.
Each cask will yield 240 bottles of special tequila, each bottle individually numbered and featuring a gold-embossed icon representing its specific cask finish.
Tasting notes from Diageo include:
- Orange Wine: Notes of orange peel, tea, and spices, deepening the tequila’s amber color.
- Bourbon Double Charred: Heavily toasted flavor with caramelized banana, vanilla, and nut notes.
- Cremant: Floral vanilla, citrus, cooked agave, and a tannic sensation.
- Madeira: Caramel, nuts, spice, and toffee.
- Ruby Port: Toast flavor with cloves, cinnamon, dried fruits, and dark chocolate.
Cask owners will also be invited to a special event at Don Julio’s distillery in Mexico. The NFT token can be sold or gifted, representing the ownership of a full cask of the purchased tequila.
