Don Julio five cask-finished 1942 tequila release

Don Julio has introduced a unique collection of five cask-finished 1942 Tequila expressions, combining their renowned tequila with the character of different casks.

History Don Julio Tequila

Don Julio Tequila, one of the most revered names in the world of tequila, traces its origins back to 1942 when Don Julio González founded his distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Driven by a passion for crafting exceptional tequila, Don Julio revolutionized traditional production methods by planting agave plants further apart to ensure each received ample sunlight and nutrients, thus enhancing the quality of the agave piñas.

His dedication to quality and innovation led to the creation of a smoother, more refined tequila, setting new standards in the industry. Over the years, Don Julio Tequila has become synonymous with premium quality and craftsmanship, celebrated globally for its distinctive flavors and rich heritage. Today, the brand continues to honor the legacy of its founder, maintaining the same commitment to excellence that Don Julio González envisioned over 80 years ago.

Auction information Don Julio’s cask-finished 1942 tequila’s

Acquiring these tequilas won’t be straightforward, as the five cask-aged Don Julio 1942 Tequilas are only available as a full set via auction on the blockchain platform BlockBar. The auction began on June 4th and will run until June 20th.

The set includes Bourbon, Ruby Port, Orange Wine, Madeira, and Cremant casks, each available for separate bidding starting at US$35,000. Winners will receive their tequila through an NFT token issued by BlockBar, which can be redeemed 12 months after the auction concludes. During this period, the five casks will be stored at Don Julio’s distillery in Mexico and will be bottled between December 2024 and March 2025.

Each cask will yield 240 bottles of special tequila, each bottle individually numbered and featuring a gold-embossed icon representing its specific cask finish.

Tasting notes from Diageo include:

  • Orange Wine: Notes of orange peel, tea, and spices, deepening the tequila’s amber color.
  • Bourbon Double Charred: Heavily toasted flavor with caramelized banana, vanilla, and nut notes.
  • Cremant: Floral vanilla, citrus, cooked agave, and a tannic sensation.
  • Madeira: Caramel, nuts, spice, and toffee.
  • Ruby Port: Toast flavor with cloves, cinnamon, dried fruits, and dark chocolate.

Cask owners will also be invited to a special event at Don Julio’s distillery in Mexico. The NFT token can be sold or gifted, representing the ownership of a full cask of the purchased tequila.
