The Tomintoul 40 Years Old Whisky of the Second Edition matured for over 40 years in ex-Bourbon hogshead barrels made from American oak. Subsequently, the whisky was non-chill filtered and bottled at a natural color with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 43.1 percent.

The whisky that would eventually become the Tomintoul 40 Years Old Second Edition was hand-selected by Robert Fleming, the Master Distiller at Tomintoul. He explains that this was a meticulous process, involving the examination of multiple casks in the quest for “the perfect Scotch for this rare second release.”

The Tomintoul 40 Years Old Second Edition Whisky is a special and delicate expression. The whisky is presented in a unique bottle: a handcrafted crystal decanter. This, in turn, is delivered in a custom-made black wooden case with double doors, luxurious lining, and a certificate of authenticity.

Robert Fleming has also provided tasting notes for the Tomintoul 40 Years Old Second Edition Whisky:

  • Nose: Honeysuckle, candied fruits, orange peel, and butterscotch with cocoa powder, maple syrup, and oak spices.
  • Palate: Rich layers of Manuka honey, toffee, coffee grounds, and Turkish delight, accompanied by candied cloves, sandalwood, and tobacco.
  • Finish: Warming and long-lasting with notes of chocolate eclairs, cinnamon, and cappuccino foam, followed by licorice, toasted oak, and tonka bean.

There are only 165 individual bottles available worldwide. These can be purchased through select whisky retailers in the United Kingdom and online via the Tomintoul webshop. The price tag on a bottle is £4,000 (approximately €4,600). Whether the whisky will also be available on Dutch shelves and when it will be available has not been announced by the distillery.
