A secure marketplace for private whisky collectors

Common issues

Years of collecting whisky had us running into the same issues again and again.

Trading issues

When you buy or sell in an informal setting, situations repeat themselves. Like who goes first? Does the buyer send money first, without knowing if the (right) bottle will arrive? Or does the seller ship the bottle, trusting that the buyer will pay once it arrives? And what about counterfeits or conflict resolution if something goes wrong?

No/little verification of buyers or sellers

Risks inherent in informal trading

Private sales lack (legal) protection

Pricing issues

The world of whisky trading is full of auction-based platforms that solve some of the trading issues. But inherent to auctions is usually a higher-than-market-rate hammer price. Buyers pay that price. And often a buyer’s fee of 10% or more on top that. And sellers don’t reap all the benefits. They often pay a seller’s fee of 15% or more. Not to mention additional fees that are tacked on.

Auction houses have high fees / commissions

Buyers often pay a higher price

Many trading platforms require bottles in-house
