New Glenmorangie original 12 years old release
Can a whisky be even softer and creamier than it already is? According to Dr. Bill Lumsden, it can. That’s why Glenmorangie The Original has been revamped and replaced with Glenmorangie 12 Years. The renewed Glenmorangie whisky will be available in the Netherlands from August 5. This makes the first expression from Glenmorangie’s core range two years older than The Original. Introduced in the 1960s, The Original is a 10-year-old whisky.
Introduction to the History of Glenmorangie
Glenmorangie, established in 1843, is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest single malt whiskies. Located in the Scottish Highlands, Glenmorangie combines centuries-old traditions with innovative techniques to craft its distinctive and beloved whiskies. Known for its tall stills, which are the tallest in Scotland, Glenmorangie ensures a smoother and more refined spirit. Over the years, the distillery has gained a reputation for its dedication to perfection and its commitment to creating complex and flavorful whiskies.
Dr. Bill Lumsden’s Memory
According to Dr. Bill Lumsden, Head of Distilling & Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie, these extra two years enhance the flavor profile. “The result is The Original 12 Years Old. Smoother, creamier, and even more complex—I like to think that it amplifies the classic notes of orange, vanilla, peach, and honey in our signature whisky.”
Lumsden explains that he was studying for his PhD in Edinburgh in 1984 when he first tasted a Glenmorangie Scotch single malt whisky. He describes being enchanted by the flavor profile that day and has always strived to stay true to the memory of that first taste. Nevertheless, he believes the upgrade to the new 12-year expression is an improvement.
