Creating a New Listing
Creating a listing on WannaWhisky may feel scary. Not everyone is a walking whisky dictionary. Luckily, our listing process is designed to be straightforward, resulting in a professional showcase of your bottle. Along the way are several tools that help facilitate figuring out the specifics of your bottle.
Follow the steps below to create your first listing!
Step 1: Photograph Your Bottle
Take a clear, well-lit photograph of your bottle. Make sure the label is fully visible and in focus. This photo will be used to present your bottle to potential buyers, but also to extract information when the bottle is not already represented in our database.
Tips for great photos:
- Use natural light when possible
- Include the full bottle and label in frame
- Ensure text on the label is readable
- A clean, neutral background works best
Later in the form, you can upload a maximum of 8 photographs.
Are you offering extra material next to your bottle? Like an original packaging or booklet? Also photograph this so potential buyers can inspect your extra material on the images as well.

Step 2: Extracting the Details
After the amazing photoshoot with your bottle, it is time to find your bottle barcode. You can click on “Sell Whisky” in the top menu and enter the barcode there. Your bottle will be searched in our database. Not all whisky bottles have received a barcode, so you can also search our database manually. When your bottle has been identified, you can continue to the next step.
It is possible that your bottle doesn’t exist yet in our database. Just select “I have a different whisky”. You will continue to encounter a form that asks for a list of bottle details. No worries, Scotty is here to help. Open the chat in the bottom right corner and send the result of your bottle photoshoot. Scotty will provide all information that is available on the bottle in a neat list that you can directly enter into the form.
All and all, the database or asking Scotty for help saves you time and ensures accuracy in your listing.
Step 3: Verify the Information
Information has been automatically filled in based on our database, or on Scotty’s observations. Review these details carefully. While Scotty and our database are highly accurate, it’s always worth double-checking to ensure everything is correct. You can edit any field if needed.
Not sure what the difference between a bottler and a distillery is? Or what ABV means? Hover over the [?] icon to learn what each characteristic signifies.
Step 4: Describe Your Bottle’s Condition
Help buyers understand exactly what they’re purchasing by providing details about your so-called scope of delivery. Are you solely selling the bottle? Or do you also sell the original packaging? Maybe together with additional items?
After selecting your scope of delivery, it is important to let the buyer know what condition your bottle and potential extra offered materials are in.
The form explains what each step in the condition ladder represents. This will enable you to identify what state your offered bottle and potential extra materials are in.
Be honest and thorough. Transparency builds trust and leads to successful sales.
Step 5: Add Optional Details
Facts like a “bottled in”-year or stated age are not always known for a whisky, thus making these details optional. As mentioned before, our database or Scotty provide all known details of your bottle, even these optional details. Again, verify if these are correct.
It is completely normal if you leave some fields empty. Everything is optional, but lovely to know for fellow whisky collectors.
Step 6: Write Your Product Description
In this same section, it is optional to share what makes this bottle special for you. Consider including:
- Why you’re selling it
- How you acquired it
- Storage conditions (e.g., temperature-controlled cellar)
- Any unique characteristics or history
- Possible tasting notes
Keep it genuine and informative. Buyers appreciate authentic insight from fellow collectors, but again, writing this description is optional.
Step 7: Pictures and Pricing
Now it is time to upload your beautiful images. Show at least one image of every material you are offering.
Choose how you’d like to sell your bottle:
- Fixed Price Only – Set a specific price. Buyers can only offer a bid at this price.
- Accept Bids Only – Allow collectors to submit offers. You can set a reserve price (minimum you’ll accept) and review all bids before accepting.
- Combined – List a “Bid Asking Price” option while also accepting bids below that amount. This gives you flexibility while attracting different types of buyers.
Before setting your price, you can ask Scotty to research similar bottles that are currently listed on WannaWhisky and with that, indicate a price range or give an advice on your asking price.
Step 7: Review and Publish
Take a final moment to review your complete listing:
- Are all details accurate?
- Is your pricing competitive?
- Does your description tell the full story?
- Are your photos clear and professional?
When you’re satisfied, click Create Listing. Your bottle will immediately appear in the marketplace for collectors to discover.
