Verification and Licensing
Trust based on reliable processes and systems
An account and a completed onboarding are what it takes to buy and sell on WannaWhisky, and everyone who registers confirms they are 18 or over and use WannaWhisky as a private individual. Identity verification sits on top of that: Stripe carries it out, it takes about two minutes, and it is what turns an account into one other members can place trust in.
Why verification matters
- It reduces fraud.
- It lets a buyer see who they are dealing with.
- It gives a seller a counterparty who has put a name to their account.
- It lets buyers choose Buyer Protection on every listing you create — only a verified seller’s listings offer it. For you, that means the buyer has paid before you ship or hand over the bottle, and a buyer who is protected is more willing to go ahead.
Trading does not depend on it. Buyer Protection does, and so does a buyer’s confidence when the bottle is an expensive one.
Licensing for businesses
WannaWhisky is currently for private individuals (C2C), who do not need alcohol distribution licences. Businesses cannot register yet. When business selling (B2C) is introduced, a business will have to provide valid documentation showing it is legally permitted to sell alcohol within its jurisdiction, and these documents will be reviewed before its listings go live.
