Creating a New Listing
Creating a listing on WannaWhisky may feel daunting — not everyone is a walking whisky dictionary. Luckily, our listing process is designed to be straightforward, resulting in a professional showcase of your bottle. Along the way, several tools help you figure out the specifics.
Follow the steps below to create your first listing.
-
Photograph your bottle
Take a clear, well-lit photograph of your bottle. Make sure the label is fully visible and in focus. This photo will be used to present your bottle to potential buyers, and to extract information when the bottle is not yet in our database.
Tips for great photos:
- Use natural light when possible
- Include the full bottle and label in frame
- Ensure text on the label is readable
- A clean, neutral background works best
Later in the form, you can upload a maximum of 8 photographs. Are you offering additional materials alongside the bottle — such as original packaging or a booklet? Photograph these too, so buyers can inspect everything in the listing images.

-
Extract the details
Once your photos are ready, locate your bottle’s barcode. Click Sell Whisky in the top menu and enter the barcode to search our database. Not all whisky bottles have a barcode, so you can also search manually. Once your bottle is identified, continue to the next step.
If your bottle doesn’t exist in our database yet, select “I have a different whisky”. You will be presented with a form asking for bottle details. Scotty is here to help — open the chat in the bottom right corner, send your bottle photo, and Scotty will provide all available information in a list you can enter directly into the form.
Whether through the database or Scotty, this step saves time and ensures accuracy.
-
Verify the information
Details have been filled in automatically based on our database or Scotty’s observations. Review them carefully. While both are highly accurate, it’s always worth double-checking — and you can edit any field if needed.
Not sure what the difference is between a bottler and a distillery, or what ABV means? Hover over the [?] icon next to any field to learn what each characteristic signifies.
-
Describe your bottle’s condition
Help buyers understand exactly what they’re purchasing by specifying your scope of delivery. Are you selling the bottle only, or also the original packaging and any additional items?
After selecting your scope of delivery, indicate the condition of the bottle and any additional materials. The form explains what each grade in the condition scale represents, making it easy to identify the right one for your items.
Be honest and thorough. Transparency builds trust and leads to successful sales.
-
Add optional details
Details such as bottling year or stated age are not always known, so these fields are optional. Our database and Scotty will supply any known details — including optional ones — so verify whether these are correct.
It is completely normal to leave some fields empty. Everything is optional, but the more information provided, the more useful your listing is to fellow collectors.
-
Write your product description
Optionally, share what makes this bottle special. Consider including:
- Why you’re selling it
- How you acquired it
- Storage conditions (e.g., temperature-controlled cellar)
- Any unique characteristics or history
- Possible tasting notes
Keep it genuine and informative. Buyers appreciate authentic insight from fellow collectors — but writing a description is entirely optional.
-
Upload photos and set your price
Upload your photographs. Include at least one image of every item you are offering.
Then choose how you’d like to sell:
- Fixed Price Only: set a specific price. Buyers can only offer a bid at this price.
- Accept Bids Only: allow collectors to submit offers. You can set a reserve price (the minimum you’ll accept) and review all bids before accepting.
- Combined: list a fixed asking price while also accepting bids below that amount. This gives you flexibility while attracting different types of buyers.
Before setting your price, you can ask Scotty to research similar bottles currently listed on WannaWhisky and suggest a price range or recommended asking price.
-
Review and publish
Take a final moment to review your complete listing:
- Are all details accurate?
- Is your pricing competitive?
- Does your description tell the full story?
- Are your photos clear and professional?
When you’re satisfied, click Create Listing. Your bottle will immediately appear in the marketplace for collectors to discover.
